Film screening, author celebration among BHM events

The Daily Reflector Feb 8, 2023

A screening of the documentary “After Trayvon, A Brave Short Film” followed by a panel discussion at ECU and a celebration of African American authors from Winterville are among events celebrating Black History Month.

The screening will begin at 6 p.m. today followed by the discussion in the Black Box Theater in the Main Campus Student Center on 10th Street. The film was produced by Crystal Chambers and directed by Ken Wyatt, both ECU faculty members.

The audience will explore the influence of the killings on black college student development in a discussion moderated by Roshaunda Breeden, assistant professor of educational leadership at ECU.

The event is presented by the Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, the Women and Gender Office, the Office of Equity and Diversity, the Black Faculty Organization and the African and African American Studies program.

On Sunday, the Winterville Historical and Arts Society will host an event to highlight African American authors from the town. The writers and works include:

Lester Patrick, “Weak Start Unapologetic Present
